Brazillian Lymphatic Drainage Massage

Brazillian Lymphatic Drainage Massage

Brazillian Lymphatic Drainage Massage | What is Brazilian Lymphatic Drainage Massage | Massage & Skin Care Center

Brazilian Lymphatic Drainage is a specialized type of massage that focuses on stimulating the natural drainage of the lymph nodes, in order to eliminate waste and toxins from the body.

What does it do?

Brazilian Lymphatic Drainage stimulates the flow of lymph through the body, improving circulation & metabolism. Specific massage techniques are used to target the lymphatic system, encouraging the natural flow of lymph through the body, and opening passageways that are otherwise blocked or impeded by debris and toxins. It increases blood flow, removes toxins, and flushes out waste. This treatment improves the efficiency of the lymphatic system, effectively sculpting and toning the skin, as excess water weight is removed from the body, toxins and debris are flushed out, and inflammation is reduced.

Additional Benefits

While the main benefit of Brazilian Lymphatic Drainage is the removal of toxins from the body, there are many other benefits that come along with this treatment. Pre and post surgery, Brazilian Lymphatic Drainage can be used to reduce inflammation and assist in healing & recovery as it flushes out toxins and aids in the delivery of beneficial antibodies to various parts of the body.

Brazilian Lymphatic Drainage is also beneficial to the digestive system, as the two systems are closely linked. If your lymphatic system is working well, then your digestive system will work well too. Lymphatic Drainage will aid with bloating and bad digestion. Additionally, the digestive system is related to our brain and hormones, so when we rebalance our digestive system, we also see improvements in our mood, sleep habits, and overall mental wellbeing. Did you know, 95% of our happy hormones is produced in the gut? Yup, you got that right!

Because Lymphatic Drainages aids in the elimination of toxins and waste, it also restores the healthy complexion of the skin. Think of it as a deep cleanse, removing unwanted toxins that have accumulated beneath the deeper skin tissue.

How does it work?

The Lymphatic system doesn't have an internal pump to encourage the flow of lymph, so it needs the stimulation to remove toxins, excess water retention, fight off illness, and boost the immune system. The Brazillian Lymphatic Drainage Massage targets specific points on the body to provide the most benefit to the lymphatic system.

When it comes to inflammation, it's important to focus on the root cause. Each person has different inflammation levels, and lymphatic drainage is a great treatment as it opens up passageways to encourage movement, eliminating inflammation.

Brazilian Lymphatic Drainage targets the water retention in your body, not fat. We often appear swollen and inflamed due to water weight, which can be stored from emotions, processed food, and our environment. It works best on those with a healthy lifestyle as it is a treatment that assists the natural processes of the body.

Think of this treatment as "clearing the pipes". When your sink isn't draining properly, it needs some assistance. The same rule applies to your lymphatic drainage. There is so much waste going through it that it's important to make sure we are clearing any build up.

What is the job of the lymphatic system?

The Lymphatic System consists of several structures which all work together, including the Lymph nodes and Lymph. Lymph is a fluid containing white blood cells that flows through the lymphatic system, delivering antibodies and removing toxins. Lymph nodes are found throughout the body, and can be thought of as the drain for lymph. Lymph nodes mainly store immune cells that help the body fight infection. They also filter the lymph fluid and remove foreign material such as bacteria and cancer cells. When bacteria are recognized in the lymph fluid, the lymph nodes make more infection-fighting white blood cells. This is why, often times, when you are sick you will notice a swelling in your lymph nodes, specifically in the neck and underarms.

Lymph nodes job is to release toxins. The lymphatic massage is helping the nodes pee it out. As our environment is not 100% clean our lymphatic system can become clogged. Pollution, stress and lack of water intake are all contributors to high inflammation, resulting in an overwhelmed lymphatic system that can no longer work efficiently leading to a lack of energy and feeling depleted. Once the lymphatic system is drained we can return to a high energy state.

Lymphatic system will help treat the immune system, the digestive system and the circulatory system as they all depend on the flushing of toxins and the delivery of essential nutrients.

      Treatment details

Brazilian Lymphatic Drainage massage is unique as all the movements are different than normal massage, the movements are targeted to specifically end at each lymph node drainage point.

As it drains excess water weight from the body, the muscles become more prominent. The skin feels and looks tighter. This treatment is great to do a day or two before an event, as it will help you shed the water weight that is stored in your body. Results can take up to 40 hours, as the body flushes out all toxins, stored water, and other debris. This is a temporary effect, and remember that the health benefits are more important than the look. It's important to come back for repeat sessions to clean the lymphatic system and keep the body free of toxins. The most effective results are shown when the treatment is paired with proper diet, exercise, water intake, and mental wellness.

For best results, we recommend coming in for this treatment at least twice a month. Ideally, we recommend booking a session per week for 3 weeks, until the symptoms of fluid retention and swelling have improved. After that point, we suggest coming in every 4 - 8 weeks for maintenance.

      Home care

Post treatment you will feel very tired, it is important to not sit in your tiredness for too long. The lymphatic system depends on movement for optimal functioning, walking and light stretches are great methods of movement for your body post treatment. It is important to not over exert yourself, after a couple of days you will be able to partake in your regular exercise regimen.

Water is essential in the detoxification and flushing of toxins. It is important to consume lots of water post treatment to continue the flushing process. As the lymph gets filtered, the toxins and waste will then be brought to various excretory organs to then be secreted by the body in the form of urine, sweat, etc. You might experience an additional bowel movement as well as notice that your bowel movements and urine might be more odorous, this is due to the elimination of toxins and is completely normal.

Avoiding any extreme cold or hot temperatures post treatment is also ideal as extreme temperatures will either further dilate or contract our vessels interrupting lymphatic flow.

On a daily basis it is important to understand the effects that our habits and various life choices can have on our lymphatic system. As our lymphatic system works hand and hand with numerous systems in the body, we need to focus on our overall health as a whole.

Consuming nutrient rich foods and plenty of water is one of the most effective ways of reducing chronic inflammation. Your lymph flow will be altered by what you put in your body. Eat foods that fuel you and avoid the ones that leave you feeling sluggish and depleted. Approximately 95% water, our lymphatic system depends on water for optimal health. Drinking half your body weight in water will promote the circulation of immune cells and help keep the lymphatic system working efficiently.

Reducing stress levels is pivotal for our overall health. Triggering the parasympathetic nervous system allows our body to properly heal in turn accelerating the flow of lymph and the flushing of toxins. Deep diaphragmatic breathing helps us calm the mind and body allowing us to resume a state of optimal balance. In addition, if we spend long hours sitting down this creates trauma and stagnation to many of our vital organs located in the abdomen. Inhalation and exhalation both provide a gentle massage to our vital organs resulting in optimal functioning as well as promoting the cleansing of the lymphatic system by forming a vacuum effect, in turn propelling the lymph.

At home practices can also include taking a warm bath. Helping you relax while helping regulate the body from the negative effects of stress. In addition epsom salt soaks will also further accelerate the flushing of toxins and reduce inflammation all while improving circulation and digestion. Saunas are also a great place to take a moment to relax and further accelerate the detoxification process by the elimination of toxins through our pores. Pooling of blood and lymph can be accumulated in our feet due to the effects of gravity, resulting in swelling. Elevating your legs for 20 minutes will help bring the lymphatic flow towards the lymph nodes to be filtered in turn reducing swelling.

Dry brushing will help prevent the clogging of pores. As our skin uses our pores as a way of detoxifying, it is important to keep clogged pores and the accumulation of dead skin cells at bay. While propelling lymph, blood circulation is also improved resulting in improved digestion. Gua Sha is another tool that can be used not only on the face but on the entire body to help drain stagnant fluid and toxins.

Sleep is essential for everyday functioning, poor sleeping habits can have drastic effects on your overall health. This is the time your body takes to repair itself and regulate hormones, if we are not getting enough sleep our bodies repair process will be disrupted. The brain also has a separate cleansing system called: the glymphatic system. This system only works when we are sleeping by eliminating the toxins and debris that are accumulated in the brain while we are awake. On average it is ideal to receive between 7-9 hours of sleep to ensure the proper functioning of the brain and body.

As you can see, our lymphatic system works along side numerous systems in the body. When our lymphatic system is working efficiently we start to feel more energized, happier, lighter and healthier. It is essential to partake in healthy everyday habits to ensure the continuous flow of lymph and proper detoxification. Ultimately revealing optimal health.
