Skincare Tips for the beginner

men's skincare tips winnipeg

Regardless of gender, it's important for all of us to take care of our skin based on its needs and conditions.

That being said, I'm willing to bet you have at least one person in your life who neglects skin care. We get it - skincare has been categorized as a traditionally feminine concern. But how silly is that? Everyone's skin needs some TLC and we ALL deserve to feel good about our skin. Some people are 100% comfortable booking a facial appointment for themselves and some are not. You may think, like many others, that it is "too feminine". Or perhaps you're worried that you are too uninformed to come in and see us. Either way, we hope you know that this a space where we are happy to help you and want to educate you so that you can feel better about the skin you're in.

There are key structural differences between the skin of people with larger amounts of testosterone and people with less, and it's important for you to understand these differences if you're wanting to help your skin! People with significant amounts of testosterone have larger hair follicles and more sebaceous glands. Testosterone is what makes the skin 25% thicker compared to estrogen. It’s also the reason why you may have rougher texture…rougher…not tougher! This means that your approach to skincare is going to look different than what you might be used to seeing others do!

We know that this process can seem intimidating and, well, time consuming. That's why we have curated a quick yet effective routine for everyday with only three products to treat the face. So, let’s drop the body wash (no, it is not meant for the face!). The skin on our face needs more than that, it is exposed to so much more than our body in the environment, and therefore it requires special attention. If you have specific skin concerns or issues, please come on by and we can give you an in depth consultation for your skin!

  1. Start off with cleansing complex. You will love it, hands down the best cleanser for you. It doesn’t strip the skin of its oils and its a gel consistency with a light lather that gives you a classic clean feeling. Do this AM and PM.
  2. If you have a few blemishes and want to add an extra step to take care of your skin, then Active serum needs to be in your line up. I don’t know a single person that doesn’t love the tingle action and the results this serum offers. This is to be used PM only and every other night.
  3. Lots of people skip out on the moisturizer…not sure why you think you can do that but hey, you're here to learn! We recommend the Moisturizing Complex from iS Clinical, Gel ADN SilkGen or Emulsion Originelle Regenerante. Don’t worry, this will leave you with a matte finish! And yes, also AM and PM.
  4.  And yes, you need to apply SPF. Every day. Your testosterone may make your skin naturally thicker and stronger but you still need to provide protection. Eclipse provides SPF 50 protection and hydration. Use it AM only! (SPF helps prevent dark spots, fine lines, aging, and helps to heal the appearance of acne scarring.)

So... there you have it! It's as easy as cleanser, moisturizer, SPF. A simple routine that will have you looking and feeling so much better. You officially have no excuses to not take care of your skin. If you ever want to just dabble and try the products out first, check the iS Clinical Kits before committing to the full sizes of everything. If you are still struggling with where to get started, or have skin concerns not mentioned here, don't hesitate to reach out. We are here to help you!
